William Douglas Macleod

Born in Clarkston, Glasgow, Scotland on Januaty 1 1892.

William Macleod first worked in a bank and then served in the Royal Artillery during WW1.

After he was decommissioned he enrolled at the Glasgow School of Art and studied under Maurice Griffenhagen (1862-1931).

After graduating he worked from his home in Lenzie, Renfrewshire and was occupied in painting landscapes of Scotland and many places in Europe. Between 1920 and 1930 he worked as a cartoonist for the Glasgow Evening News.

Macleod signed his work as above to distinguish himself from the Australian born artist William Macleod.
